What is the "DSC" button in my BMW X5 car?

I have a 2004 BMW X5 3.0i and I believe it is not a 4x4 wheel drive.

We just got a jet ski and we are planning on going to tlake tahoe and I thought we needed a 4x4 car, because it has alot of hills while going there. while driving, i found a DSC button and when i pressed it..... a 4x4 light lid up. But I could not tell the difference... meaning that I dont think anything changed.

so What does the "DSC" button do and when is it used for??

None of the answers provided are correct. And I think your question is wrong too.

I think the button you are referring to is called the DTC button, or Dynamic Traction Control.

All new BMWs are equipped with Dynamic Stability Control. This system monitors over- and under steer and adapts engine power and individual brakes to keep the car under control and headed in the intended direction.

A switch on the dashboard will put the DSC into DTC mode, or Dynamic Traction Control. In this mode, a certain degree of rear wheel slip is allowed, useful in deep snow or when having a little fun.

At no time can you completely turn off the traction control on a new BMW.

53 Plate BMW X5, Car alarm keeps going off....?

My car alarm keeps going off shortly after it is locked, it will do this almost every time when it is locked for a week or so, then it will stop happening for a period of time, and so it continues. it will go off within roughly 30 minutes of the car being locked, if its not gone off by then it won't go off at all? any ideas what the problem could be?

Could be a few causes for this Michael.

My two "favourites" would be either the bonnet switch or the interior sensors. Obviously the best way would be to visit either a dealer or someone with BMW diagnostic capability, where they could then check the history of alarm activations.

One thing you could try for now is when locking the car, press the lock button twice. This will deactivate the interior senors, which if solves the problem points you in the direction of the interior sensors.

If it doesn't fix the problem and you don't fancy the dealer just yet, you could buy and fit a bonnet switch as these are common to fail and relatively cheap too.

Do keep in mind though that the problem "could" potentially be any of the following:

Any door lock unit
Bonnet switch
General module control unit
Interior sensors
