The Final Numbers on ‘Clunkers’

It’s in fine over. After four weekends of lunacy, assortment and Web location crashes, the extra-tropical cyclone that was the “liquidate for clunkers” program came to a draw Tuesday evening.

The Transportation Subdivision said that the program resulted in around 700,000 car sales, and car dealers had submitted $2.877 billion in rebates by the 8 p.m. deadline.

In the imaginative legislation, the “loot for clunkers” program officially kicked off on July 27 and was scheduled to run through Nov. 1. Prehistoric predictions had the initial funding of $1 billion sustained out by Labor Day, but by the end of the first week, tradesman organizations were prophecy the Hoary Congress that the notes was not quite gone. The Senate endorsed another $2 billion in funding, but that didn’t last too extensive either.

In a very too revealing intelligence present, the Transportation Control revealed that the Ford Immigrant topped the tabulation of most traded-in clunkers, while the Toyota Corolla was the most all the rage car purchased through the program, followed by the Honda Urban. The top 10 traded-in vehicles were American brands and eight of the top 10 purchased vehicles were inappropriate brands.

dodge grand caravan built-in car seats?

I have a 2005 dodge grand caravan. How old does your child have to be to use the built in car seats instead of using a regular portable car seat

Well, since those are forward facing only seats, the child needs to be 2 years old, or over 30-35lbs and therefore to heavy to be in a rear facing convertible car seat. The recommendation is no longer forward facing at 1year/20lbs, that info came from the 80's when the seats we had were only capable of rear facing to 20lbs. Now all current convertibles go to at least 30lbs. More on rear facing and how important it is later if you're interested!

So, the child needs to have outgrown a rear facing convertible seat, but still be small enough to have their shoulders be at or below the top slots of the built-in seat. And make sure the built-in seat has never been in an accident. Overall those built-in's really have very little use b/c of their limitations in size and portability.

WHY REAR FACING:
Turning kids forward at 20lbs/1year is an outdated practice that could cost you your child's life!
1)A forward-facing child under 2 years old is 5 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash than a rear-facing child of the same age.
2)A child's vertabrae do not fully fuse until 3-6 years old, before then, she is at great risk for internal decapitation. The spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash BUT the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and baby is gone.
3)Current research suggests that children under the age of two years are 75 percent less likely to die or be seriously injured when they are riding rear facing.
4)In a recent article from Injury Prevention, it was found that the odds of severe injury to forward facing children age 12-23 months old was 5.32 times higher than a rear facing child. (Car Safety Seats For Children: Rear Facing For Best Protection; Injury Prevention 2007; 13:398-402.)

Is a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan a good car to own?

Ive never driven a mini van before, but the way gas is, i need to drive something other than our Chevies. I need more room than a car can give, and I found this mini van. Its a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport, 4 door, 138K, new tranny (within last 5 years). Any one have any input? Anyone love it? Feel strange cuz Ive always only had trucks (except my first car) Hard to imagine myself rockin a minivan...

you'd be better off trying to find a Toyota Sienna 98 & 99's are around $4,000.

if the Caravan needed a new transmission what is next?

if you like trucks better why not look for a small SUV or what they refer to as crossover vehicles.

the Dodge mini van doesn't hold that much more than most of them.

I have a 1996 dodge grand caravan and when I am driving the car will only go to 55 mph and the rpm go to 4 ?

When I am accelerating the car reves loud and the rpms keep going up. When I take my foot off the gas petal it rapidly slows down. What can be the problem?

the transmission is either slipping on it or its going in to limp mode or its really low on fluid,if you,ll take it by any transmission shop they will test drive it and give you a diagnoses on what it might be and what the cost might be to repair it,that's better than driving it until it goes out,good luck and happy holidays,to you.
