1st car? Toyota 4Runner a good idea?

Well, I've been thinking about a used '00 or '01 Toyota 4Runner for my first car and I think I might want 4WD because I go to the beach EVERYDAY and there's a lot of sand there, obviously...and I surf, so would the car come with a roof rack? And if you guys have any other good year 4Runners you can suggest them.

A Toyota is a good choice. 4 wheel drives cost a lot more to maintain than 2 wheel drives. They are dearer on fuel too. Do you need 4x4? Isn't there a carpark at the beach? I doubt a 4runner will come with a roof rack but I'm sure you could get one. There is more than enough room inside a 4runner to fit a surfboard. (make sure it is in a boardbag or the wax might melt and wreck your interior)

My pre-owned Toyota 4Runner car alarm went off for no reason, how would i prevent that from happening again?

i own a repair shop, and it might have been parked on un-level ground or it had a sudden voltage drop on it, this will cause it to go off ,usually this is the main cause for one going off ,is a sudden loss of voltage it can be so little of a drop that only the alarm noticed it, i wouldn't worry about it,unless it keeps on doing it,,its normal for one to do it once in a while, mine does it in a heavy rain or a wind storm,it may be OK good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

Toyota 4Runner?

What do you people think of a Toyota 4Runner? good car? known to cause problems? expensive to keep? and any other info that is helpful.

The 4Runner is one of the better SUVs that you can buy. Its one of the few SUVs that is hard to find used. Thats because people dont like to part with them. They get better gas mileage than most other SUVs in their class but most of all they last forever. My 1997 Toyota 4Runner has over 200,000 miles on it and drives very well. I can expect this to go for at least another 100,000 miles as it shows no signs of dying anytime soon. Im getting 20 mpg in my 4Runner, but I do mostly highway driving. Dont believe other rating of 20mpg unless they are based on the new standards. Im getting 20mpg and I go 65-80 miles per hour all the time, so its not because I drive super slow (And this model was only rated 19mph highway). The fact that Im getting mileage thats above the EPA rating (the old EPA rating at that) with a vehicle that has over 200,000 miles on it is a testament to how nice this car is. Except for an accident it has never been in the shop expect for basic maintenance.
I once pulled up to a guy that had the same model/color 4Runner I had to brag that I had 200,000 miles in my 4Runner only to find out that he was beating me with 250,000 miles.
If you're asking because you plan on buying one then have a mechanic check the car out to make sure that its in good condition and enjoy, although Id rather go with a smaller CAR with todays gas prices, unless you actually need to drive an SUV.
Almost forgot, this is not expensive to maintain. (at least not any more expensive than other SUVs) You pay extra for oil changes due to the V6 engine that uses 6quarts oil. Basic maintenance, which Ive been a little slack on is prob just about average for most cars. Its repairs that kills you. Luckily, if you take car of this car (oil change, spark plugs, filters, ect) then it will take care of you.
Hope this helps
