My Volvo S40 car alarm keeps going off for no reason. Any suggestions on a remedy?

All doors and windows are secure/fully closed. There appears to be no obvious reason for the alarm sounding. It can happen after ten minutes or a couple of hours. Been up all night trying to stop the alarm waking the neighbours.

hopefully you are still under warranty. Take the car to your dealer. I had this happen with an XC-70. Took it to the dealer and they rectified it by replacing a bunch of alarm-related stuff. Afterwards - no more problems. Good luck!

Im think of buying the newer volvo s40 but my local car garage said they are crap?

Are they? I have seen a lovely black one. 1.6 Diesel. My dad had 5 of them and he said they are great.

I love them and was really looking into it, but two mechanics told me it would be a waste of money. When I took my current volvo (a 91) in for service, the only cars being worked on were S40s and even the dealership service people (who didn't know I'd been there looking at their cars) admitted any Volvo's made after Ford bought them (mid 90's) aren't very great cars.
Honestly, I always trust my mechanic's opinion about cars. They don't have anything to gain or lose by telling you what they think about any model other than your repeat business which they get by warning you of potential problem cars.

I intend to buy a new 2008 volvo S40, but people around dont recommend because of costly mintenance and low reliablity of the car,is that tue? it makes me hesitant and thinking of shifting to BMW 3 series or Audi A4, although am falling in love with the S40 when i took it for test drive.

THE VOLVO IS A GOOD RELIABLE VEHICLE FOR MAYBE THE FIRST TWO YEARS.

THE COST OF MAINTENANCE WILL KILL YOU.
